  Contaminated Sprite in circulation, NAFDAC warns Nigerians The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has alerted Nigerians to a batch of unwholesome Sprite 50cl glass bottles circulating in Nigeria. NAFDAC said the product was discovered following a consumer complaint received and investigated by the post-marketing surveillance unit of the agency. The agency said the investigation revealed that over five crates of the implicated batch of Sprite 50cl glass bottles were discovered to be contaminated with particles. “The affected batch of the unwholesome product has been sampled for laboratory analysis in the NAFDAC laboratory and the Agency has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to carry out surveillance and mop up the implicated batch of the unwholesome product. “Similarly, a comprehensive current Good Manufacturing Practice Inspection of the manufacturing site is to be carried out by the Agency, this is to find the route cause of the contam...

CBN Adds Bank Customers’ Digital Footprints, Social Media Handles To KYC Rules Nigerian banks are now mandated to demand customers’ social media handles as part of Know Your Customer (KYC) requirement for opening new accounts and maintaining existing ones. The Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN ) made this known in its new Customer Due Diligence Regulations 2023 for financial institutions under its purview. The circular dated June 20, 2023, was signed by Chibuzo Efobi, the Director, Financial Policy And Regulation Department, and circulated to all financial institutions. The move is to fight financial crimes and bolster compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and counter terrorism financing provisions and to align with international best practices. The implication is that, under the Section 6 (iv) of the new regulation, it is now mandatory for financial institutions under the purview of the CBN to collect and verify customers’ social media handles. Seme Border Now Open For Vehicles Importation - FG The Director of Road Transport in the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Ibrahim Musa, yesterday, disclosed that the Federal Government has approved the re-opening of the Seme border for the importation of vehicles. Speaking at the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, meeting, organised between officials of Nigeria and Benin, Musa said the development followed complaints by freight forwarders operating at the Seme border. PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS FORMER AIG, ODUMOSU, AS EFCC CHAIR   Following the suspension of the former EFCC Chairman, Bawa, President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu as the substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Odumosu’s appointment is subject to his confirmation by the Senate. Tinubu, recently, suspended the former chairman of the anti-corruption agency. A statement from the presidency explained that Bawa’s suspension is “to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office. This follows a weighty allegation of abuse of office levelled against him.” Bawa was subsequently invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) for questioning.

Nigerian chef and Guinness World Record holder for marathon cooking, Hilda Effiong Bassey, aka Hilda Baci, has announced the arrival of her award plaque. Baci revealed this in a post on her Instagram page on Monday. She was certified as the new record holder for the longest cooking by an individual with 93 hours and 11 minutes.  A  Patrol Team of the Federal Road Safety Corps along the Abeokuta-Sagamu route in Abeokuta, Ogun State has rescued a female passenger being kidnapped by a commercial motorcyclist. FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, Florence Okpe, said the incident occurred at about 3 pm on Sunday. Okpe said the team rescued the woman from the Bajaj bike rider, who was identified as Dauda Usman, with bike registration number PKA211WA, Red BAJAJ. She said, “The FRSC team was  informed by some commercial motorcycle riders that a woman  was being taken away by a suspected  bike rider due to the alarm raised by the woman on a bike.” According to Okpe, the patrol team quickly intervened and got the bike rider arrested. The widow, Bolatito Adegoke said this in an interview with The Nation newspaper.
