ODSG CHARGES BUTCHERS ,COW DEALERS ON WHOLESOME MEAT SUPPLY TO MARKETS
In its efforts to ensure that meat consumed by the people of the State is of good quality and affordable, the Ondo State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has met with various stakeholders in the cow business chain to discuss ways to ensure meat supply to markets in the State is certified for consumption.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting held at the headquarters of the Ministry in Akure, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, (Agriculture sector), Mrs Foluke Tunde-Daramola harped on the need to ensure that wholesome meat is supplied to various markets in the State so as to strengthen and promote public health.
The Permanent Secretary added that abattoirs, both public and private, as well as other slaughtering slabs across the State must comply with best practices so as to guarantee quality meat.
Mrs Tunde-Daramola also charged Consultants in charge of revenue collection to double up their revenue drive by making sure all revenue collected are remitted promptly to the appropriate channel.
She also solicited the support of members of the cow dealers and butchers to ensure meat is affordable to the masses, stressing that protein content is good for the development of body system.
Also speaking, the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Adebayo Ehinmowo, said the meeting was necessary to promote public health and introduce members of the cow business chain to the new Permanent Secretary.
Dr Ehinmowo also called on cow dealers in the State to make sure every cow they bring is healthy and affordable. He added that sick animals will be detected by Officers working at the various abattoirs and such animal will be marked not fit for consumption.
Responding, the State Chairman of Butchers Union, Alhaji Sekiru Ayinde, and his counterpart in Cow Dealers, Alhaji Gonia Garba, promised to cooperate with the state government in terms of quality meat supply to various markets in the State.
The two leaders also said they will make sure their members pay their taxes regularly.
