WAR AGAINST COUNTERFEITING: ONDO TASKFORCE IMPOUNDS TRAILER LOAD OF ADULTERATED COCOA BEANS WORTH N200M

As part of efforts geared towards putting an end to adulterated cocoa beans in the State's agricultural chain, Ondo State Government, through the Produce Sub-Sector of its Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has impounded a trailer loaded with dried cocoa placentas and cocoa puds, used as adulterants for cocoa beans.

Following tip off and collaborative efforts of Cocoa Merchants, the Produce Department's vigilant staff caught the suspects while they were offloading the trailer at a secluded location in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Chief Olayato Aribo, applauded the officers for being proactive and urged them not to relent in their efforts to rid the State of economic saboteurs.

The Commissioner who spoke through the Permanent Secretary of Forestry/Produce sub-sector of the Ministry, Mr. Oluwagbenga Akingbasote, mni, said the government will not fold its arms and allow unscrupulous elements to derail the progress of cocoa trade in the State.

According to him, the Ministry is required to register, supervise and monitor all buyers of produce items in the state. He added that, as a regulatory body, the Ministry will continue to do its work diligently to ensure Ondo State is free from economic saboteurs deliberately killing cocoa and other produce trade in the State.

He commended efforts of the cocoa merchants who provided timely information leading to the arrest of the suspects, stressing that the war against adulterated cocoa beans is a collective effort, and all hands must be on deck to stop the act of adulteration in  Produce trade in the State and in the country at large.
