OIJEFON YOUTH COUNCIL ADVOCATES YOUTH EMPOWERMENT, INCLUSION IN GOVERNANCE
Oijefon Youth Council (OYC), the umbrella body of Ile-Oluji youth, led by its President, Engr. Adedokun Adeyonu, has advocated for the development of youth through empowerment programmes in the form of skills acquisition, agriculture, scholarships, and bursaries to support students in tertiary institutions.
He stated this during a visit to the Executive Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government, Hon. Adeboye Adebare, where he congratulated him on his emergence as the Chairman of the Local Government.
According to Adeyonu, the Oijefon Youth Council is the platform that coordinates all Ile-Oluji kingdom youth, with the aim of supporting members in self-discovery, empowerment, self-reliance, and growth. He added that the Council has continually promote peace, harmony and sustainable community development.
Engineer Adeyonu stated, "as young people, we recognize the vital role of government in shaping our future. We acknowledge your administration's efforts in areas such as education, entrepreneurship, security, and infrastructure.
However, we also understand that youth are not just beneficiaries of development, but also key stakeholders in driving progress", he said.
The youth leader added that youths are eager to participate in governance, community development projects, and leadership training, while calling on the Chairman to support the youth in completing the township stadium opposite the local government secretariat, believing it would promote sports activities.
Responding, the Chairman, Hon. Adeboye Adebare, expressed gratitude to the youth body for the visit, describing it as a sign that the youths are ready to work with the government.
He explained that upon resumption in office, he has initiated projects to make working conditions conducive for workers, part of which includes salary increment for ad-hoc staff, solar installation to electrify the complex, and the purchase of a utility vehicle.
The local government boss promised to facilitate work on the community stadium. He also maintained that he will involve and engage the youth in his administration, with subsequent meetings to check on promises made and further developments.
