ONDO GOVERNMENT TO SEAL OFF MERCHANT PREMISES CAUGHT ADULTERATING PRODUCE ITEMS

Ondo State Government has said it would henceforth seal off merchant premises found adulterating produce items, particularly cocoa beans in the State, just as it vows to ensure quality control and maintain the State's agricultural reputation in the global market.

According to a statement released by the Ministry's Head of Media and Public Relations, Mr. Sola Omoboyowa, the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Engr. Leye Akinola, made this known during a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of Forestry/Produce sub-sector, Chief Segun Odusanya, on the recent seizure of adulterants by the Ministry's zero-tolerance Task Force.

Engr. Akinola emphasized that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is concerned about the rate of adulteration, which diminishes the country's agricultural produce globally.

He warned that any merchant found engaging in such practices would have their operating license withdrawn.

Chief Odusanya, while displaying the seized adulterants, reaffirmed the government's commitment to zero tolerance for adulteration.

He stated that the seized items would be destroyed, and the merchant would face sanctions and be required to sign an undertaking not to engage in such activities again.

"As the highest producer of cocoa in Nigeria, the state government is determined to protect its reputation and that of the country from being tarnished by unscrupulous individuals" he said.
