In a momentous side event at the Muhammad Ali Centre, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, was honoured with the prestigious Avant Garde Award for Champions of Freedom by Afro-American Avant Garde Professionals, Kentucky, USA.

The recognition celebrates Dr. Ajulo’s unwavering commitment to human rights advocacy, the rule of law, and transformative legal service, both in Nigeria and across the global community.

The award ceremony, attended by distinguished guests and advocates of liberty, was held in honour of the late boxing legend Muhammad Ali, whose life of courage, conviction, and compassion continues to inspire champions of justice around the world.

Dr. Ajulo, a renowned rights activist and legal scholar, was commended for his tireless defence of justice and human dignity, as well as his exemplary leadership in promoting freedom and inclusive governance.

Reflecting on his long-standing relationship with Avant Garde International, Dr. Ajulo revealed that his visit to Louisville was a stopover to celebrate the Olugboja family, one of Ondo State’s illustrious lineages, while en route to the International Bar Association Conference in Canada.

In his acceptance speech, he paid glowing tribute to Muhammad Ali and his immortal legacy, describing him as "a true champion of champions whose voice, fists, and faith redefined freedom, courage, and self-belief for generations."

Recognising Louisville as the hometown of Muhammad Ali, Dr. Ajulo invited attendees to observe a minute of silence in honour of the legendary boxer. “Let us remember a true champion of freedom and equality,” he said, prompting a solemn moment of reflection across the room.

The Attorney General, who dedicated the award to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, eulogised him as "a true democrat and a champion of champions whose administration continues to uphold freedom, fairness, and dialogue as the enduring pillars of governance."

"Under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, Ondo State has become a model of participatory governance and constructive engagement. His recent hosting of the South-West Engagement Summit stands as a shining affirmation of his belief that dialogue and inclusivity remain the strongest instruments for strengthening democracy and safeguarding freedom. It is in this spirit that I graciously dedicate this award to him for his visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to democratic values, and promotion of freedom through dialogue," Dr. Ajulo said.

Dr. Ajulo further extolled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, describing him as "a quintessential statesman whose visionary leadership is redefining governance in Nigeria through bold reforms and strategic restructuring." He noted that President Tinubu’s commitment to repositioning the nation’s economy, restoring confidence in public institutions, and fostering true federalism reflects the courage and foresight of a leader deeply devoted to national renewal.

"President Tinubu’s transformative policies are not just about rebuilding structures, they are about rekindling hope and reaffirming our collective destiny as a people of resilience, innovation, and unity. Like Muhammad Ali in the ring, he stands firm in the face of challenges, guided by conviction, purpose, and an unwavering belief in Nigeria’s greatness," he said.
